Our luxurious villa is located in the hillside of the traditional mountain village Koutouloufari, surrounded by olive trees and just above from the famous tourist resort Hersonissos. Right next to us is Eri Village which tennis court is available to our guests free of charge. It is just a seven minute walk to Koutouloufari, the first of the three traditional villages Koutouloufari, Piskopiano and Old Hersonissos. Koutouloufari offers everything you may need.There are some shops, cafes and restaurants with very good home-cooked Cretan dishes.These villages offer a unique atmosphere. Once a week there is a special evening in Old Hersonissos with live music and Cretan dances. Hersonissos itself offers you many activities such as a small aquarium with various reptiles, horse riding on the beach, the beautiful port with its many restaurants and cafes, the beach road full of pubs and bars and the main street with lots of shops.
The traditional museum, Lychnostatis, is a 10 minute walk from Villa Crete. Lychnostatis is our natural museum where you can see how people once lived, as well as have the chance to help make wine out of grapes. Right next to the museum are some sandy clean public beaches and Star Beach water park. The entrance at the water park is free and includes a gym, pools and children’s playgrounds. Water sport activities cost extra. Hersonissos is located north of Crete, only 25 km from the airport of Heraklion, 5 km to the golf resort, Aqua Plus water park and the labyrinth park, and 30 km to the city of Agios Nikolaos.
From Agios Nikolaos, as well as from Elounta, you can take a ferry which brings you to the island of Spinalonga. Spinalonga was formerly a Venetian fortress and a leper colony. There is a book called “The Island” written on it. Ierapetra is near Agios Nikolaos and offers you the possibility of renting a boat to bring you to Chrissi Island. Chrissi Island is a must for beach fanatics with its turquoise clear water and the strong sun.
Also, on the east side of the island is the well- known palm beach, Vai . It is one of the largest attractions of Crete because it features the biggest natural palm forest in all of Europe. You can combine this one day trip with the city of Sitia and Vai beach. Straight up from Hersonissos on the foot of Mount Dikti lies the Lasithi Plateau, famous for its windmills. It contains many villages, Lasinthos eco park and not to forget the Dikteon Andron cave which according to legend, Zeus was born.
On the west side of Crete, Chania and Rethimnon are located. In between those two cities is the only lake in Crete called Kournas .Both cities are worth visiting, each with its own atmosphere. Furthermore, Chania was the capitol of Crete. At the coast of the northwest side of Crete is Gramvousa located and at the south west side is Elafonissi. Elafonissi is a protected natural reserve and when the weather is good it is possible to walk to the island through the shallow water.
